Are you suffering from major hair loss and thinning hair? Are bald spots bothering you? Do you want to have that sharp US Marines buzz cut look but without a hair transplant surgery? If you answered affirmatively to all of the above – then you should definitely consider Scalp Micropigmentation!

Scalp micropigmentation is a popular and innovative method which is performed under the expertise of Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr Balvant Arora at The Hair Loss Clinic.

What Is Scalp Micropigmentation?

Scalp micropigmentation is the method that aids in giving the appearance of having a full head of hair by using pigments/inks to replicate short close-cut hair all over the scalp.

At The Hair Loss Clinic, we make use of tattoo ink to create the cropped haircut look for our patients. However, micropigmentation is not to be confused with tattoos as tattoo ink penetrates the skin deeply whereas the depth of the penetration in case of scalp micropigmentation is quite superficial and not deep.

Who Can Opt For Scalp Micropigmentation?

Scalp micropigmentation works especially well for those who are not eligible for a hair transplant surgery due to multiple reasons and also those patients who do not wish to undergo invasive surgery.

Scalp micropigmentation essentially provides a more youthful and healthy appearance to counter the baldness that has appeared due to a medical condition like a thyroid imbalance, cancer, alopecia totalis, etc.

Any individual who is unhappy with the appearance of thinning hair and the look that accompanies it can opt for scalp micropigmentation at The Hair Loss Clinic.

What To Expect At The Consultation?

During the first visit, our doctor will obtain detailed medical and surgical history and history of any hair treatment taken so far. Medical and surgical treatment options will be discussed. If you are the right candidate for micro pigmentation, the process will be explained again.

Consultation is an essential factor when it comes to scalp micropigmentation. Understanding the patient’s desire is also very important. At The Hair Loss Clinic, Dr Balvant Arora takes utmost care to cater to the patient’s requirement and then further action is decided upon.

What To Expect Before The Process?

Here is what you can expect on the day of your surgery:

  • Filling out and signing consent forms
  • Standard views of before process pictures taken
  • Marking of the desired hairline in agreement with you

How Is Scalp Micropigmentation Performed At The Hair Loss Clinic?

  • The skin on the scalp is first analysed and measurements are taken for the area that has to be micro pigmented.
  • The ink is decided based on what suits your skin type and ethnicity. This is done prior to the process as a few tests are carried out to analyse the appearance of the ink over a smaller area
  • Generally, the doctor applies a numbing agent in order to numb the area to avoid any discomfort. However, some stinging can be experienced as the anaesthesia is not injected but externally applied.
  • Microneedles are used for the process to replicate the fine short hair appearance.
  • The ink is then penetrated at an angle and depth that looks naturally aesthetic and resembles hair. The process is done approximately a thousand times over a small area to give a denser look of hair growth. The ink is then penetrated at an angle and depth that looks naturally aesthetic and resembles hair. The process is a long one. Hence, multiple sessions of 4 to 5 hours are required to pigment the entire head. In the case of bald spots, fewer sessions of the same hours are required to have the desired result.

What Are The Precautions To Be Taken After Scalp Micropigmentation?

Although micropigmentation is a non-invasive process, there are certain precautions to be followed in order to maintain the results of the same.

  1. It is necessary to avoid stepping into the  sunlight for at least four weeks. Also, after that, using a sunscreen with at least 30 to 50 SPF is necessary as constant sun exposure may turn the micro pigmented spots green or blue thus hampering the general appearance.
  2. Swimming, sauna, and wetting the scalp must be avoided for at least 5 days after the process in order to keep the pigments intact.
  3. A vigorous or heavy exercise routine that may cause sweating must be avoided after the final session as it might result in wetting the scalp.
  4. The doctor might prescribe some moisturizer after a week in order to restore the softness of the scalp.

The results of micropigmentation can be said to be semi-permanent. One might have to re-do the process after 8 to 10 years as the skin has the capacity to redevelop itself which might result in the pigments fading. Also, touch-ups can be done after every two to three years in order to have better-looking results.

Dr Balvant Arora has a holistic approach towards these treatments so as to maintain healthy results of the done process. Thus, advice on how to maintain the nutrition and the supplements that need to be taken will also be prescribed by the doctor that greatly aid in the long run.

In case you are wondering whether or not scalp micropigmentation is right for you, we invite you for a consultation at The Hair Loss Clinic where Dr Balvant Arora, Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon with expertise in Hair Restoration, will guide you further on this subject.
