Minoxidil Side Effects Warning

Minoxidil side effects are few and Minoxidil has been shown to be mostly free of side effects.

  • The most common Minoxidil side effects are simple contact dermatitis (scalp irritation, dryness, itching, scaling, and redness) and Hirsutism (increase in unwanted body hair, rare and almost always in women).

  • Minoxidil may cause burning, stinging or redness when first applied to the skin (see how we stop this Minoxidil side effect from happening). This Minoxidil side effect should disappear in a few days

  • Avoid contact with the eyes or other non-scalp areas and wash with generous amounts of cold water if this occurs. More serious side effects are rare and include: headache, visual disturbances, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, change in heart rate, lowered blood pressure, chest pain, and swelling of extremities or fatigue. If any of these Minoxidil side effects occur, discontinue the use of Minoxidil and inform your doctor immediately.

  • Minoxidil should not be applied to a sunburned or irritated scalp as this will cause further irritation.

  • Women who are pregnant or breast feeding should discontinue usage.

  • Never ingest Minoxidil orally as it is potentially harmful if swallowed.

  • Minoxidil should be kept away from children as with all medications.
